TODAY’S STRESS LEVELS, LACK OF EXERCISE AND POOR NUTRITION ARE PROMPTING AMERICANS TO WAKE UP AND TAKE NOTICE. THE FRESHEST AND MOST INNOVATIVE APPROACH TO THESE PROBLEMS IS BECOMING A REALITY RIGHT HERE IN THE BAY AREA. SEE A PHYSICIAN, FITNESS TRAINER, AND WORK OUT ON STATE-OF-THE ART EQUIPMENT – ALL UNDER THE SAME ROOF. THEN, STOP AT THE CAFÉ AND ENJOY A HEALTHY SMOOTHIE AND A NUTRITIONAL MEAL. THE ICON TEAM IS COMMITTED TO RESTORING AND MAINTAINING YOUR HEALTH AND WELLNESS THROUGH NUTRITION, FITNESS AND HORMONAL BALANCE – JUST AS NATURE INTENDED.

Angela Gruetzmacher gets excited when she talks about health and fitness. And well she should. This former schoolteacher, turned personal trainer and businesswoman, woke up one day and decided that there had to be a better way. A better way to eat, to exercise, to control her diabetes, her weight, her life.

Just a few miles away, John Johnston, M.D. had his own set of challenges. Devastated by the loss of his wife, Lauri, Dr. Johnston knew that he had to turn his grief into determination and follow his long-time dream of a new type of practice. He had two children to raise, plus he had already started the ball rolling with his partnersat Texas Gulf Coast Medical Group about implementing a wellness plan. “I had begun studying how to bring alternative and conventional medicine together,” he says, “and I was exploring every option to restore myself emotionally, spiritually and physically; and wanted to bring these concepts to my patients.”

Meanwhile, Angela started on her own road to self-improvement. She changed all her bad habits, started working out, lost 60 pounds and took over ownership of Elite Physique (soon to be known as Elite Fitness) on NASA Parkway. The quarters were cramped and oftentimes clients had to wait to use the fitness machines. But, no one minded. “It was amazing,” she relates. “The people just kept coming in. Our ‘rejuvenate, regenerate, renew’ concept was the attraction. We’ve expanded now and have plenty of room for everyone.”

Dr. Johnston was a client at Elite Physique and liked what he saw. “I was impressed with the services and trainers,” he says. “Angela had built a successful nutrition and fitness business and was adding chiropractic care. It was a perfect match for the model I had been developing over the past few years, so we decided to work together.”

Realizing they had the same goals (help others to achieve maximum health and wellness through a combination of medical treatments such as bioidenticals, supplements, exercise, nutrition, chiropractics and stress management), created a great win-win for collaboration.

Scheduled to open mid-September, ICON is located at 250 Blossom in Webster on the ground floor (Suite 100) and in the same building where Dr. Johnston currently practices. Its expansive facility will include a patient reception area, café and juice bar, large fitness area, and exam/consultation rooms.
