This is the gift the Extreme Bay Area Makeover (BAM!) Team is offering to one very fortunate person – the 2008-2009 Extreme Bay Area Makeover winner. Over $50,000 in makeover services await one lucky winner. But in order to win, candidates must apply or be nominated.

The nomination process is simple: Compose a letter expressing why you or someone you know deserves to win, include a recent photo, and you are in the running for one of the greatest gifts ever! (Entries are limited to local Bay Area residents only please.) Dr. J. Derek Tieken and his BAM! Team will choose one winner and their amazing makeover begins!

The BAM! Team is made up of a group of caring doctors who contribute their time and talents to a common cause: helping people in our community improve their lives by improving the way they look and feel about themselves. Inspired by Dr. Tieken’s own desire to express gratitude to his community for the support they’ve shown him and his Fine Art Advanced Laser and Cosmetic Dentistry practice, the team’s commitment and dedication has grown over the past four years.

When a BAM! candidate is chosen, he or she consults with each member of the BAM! Team to customize a makeover program to achieve the best results possible. In the year that follows, a slow transformation unfolds, culminating in the annual Reveal Party – a festive celebration of the candidate’s journey and amazing new look.

Nominate yourself or someone you know today! Last year’s candidate, Joey Singleton, was a single parent nominated by his sons. Their letter about their dad touched so many hearts and brought tears to the eyes of those who heard it read at the 2006 Reveal Party.

Joey’s sons detailed the times their father had put his own needs aside to take care of his boys. The surprise gift of the BAM! Extreme Makeover was a gift Joey truly deserved and cherished.

This year, the BAM! Team has selected Paula Kruschik (right) as the fourth BAM! winner. “Every entry we receive for the BAM! Makeover is very touching and special,” says Dr. Tieken. “This year, Paula’s stood out because of her support from the community and all the letters we received from the coworkers and friends who nominated her.”

Dear Sir or Madam: My friend Mayra told me about this makeover…I have had Alopecia Areata Totalis since I was five years old. I got mumps, measles and pneumonia all in a row plus a fever of 105 to 107 so I am told. At one point all my hair fell out in handfuls on my head and everywhere else as well. Growing up and going to school was hard being made fun of every day and them pulling off my hair all the time. …After a rather abusive marriage (10 years) I have been a single mother for 8 years. As I get older and I am still single I have to explain my condition to men that I date since men look at the outside first. …One of my biggest fears now that I am going to be 42 and single is that I will have to take out my teeth and take off my hair at night.
